
Joey's Bio
Joey Szabo serves as a Coordinator at Arete Public Affairs, where he supports the firm’s advocacy, research, and strategic communications efforts on behalf of clients across a variety of sectors. In his role, Joey assists with legislative and regulatory research, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination to help advance client initiatives and public affairs strategies.
Prior to joining Arete Public Affairs in May 2026, Joey gained experience in government relations, legislative affairs, and political research through a series of internships and policy-focused roles. He previously served as a Policy Intern at Cornerstone Government Affairs and as a Congressional Intern in the office of Dan Crenshaw, where he supported advocacy initiatives, conducted legislative and regulatory research, and contributed to public policy projects. These experiences provided him with a strong foundation in the policymaking process and the geopolitical and legislative factors influencing public policy decisions.
Joey’s legislative background also includes serving as a Legislative Intern for Texas Right to Life, where he monitored committee proceedings, reviewed legislation, and supported advocacy efforts during the Texas legislative process. Additionally, his experience in political research, campaign management, and data analysis with Blakemore & Associates, Edison Research, Texas Latino Conservatives, and the Harris County Republican Party has strengthened his understanding of both public policy and electoral strategy.
Beyond his professional experience, Joey demonstrated leadership and organizational skills as the March for Life Coordinator at the University of St. Thomas, where he organized and led annual delegations to Washington, D.C., overseeing logistics, budgeting, and communications efforts.
Joey is currently completing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of St. Thomas. Based in Houston, Texas, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as staying active through walking and pickleball.
